#WorkSmart: Here’s how writers can improve their productivity and the quality of their work! [Wednesday: Write with the Pen of the Masters]

Today’s fast-moving digital landscape is putting pressure on writers and marketers to produce top-notch content at massive volumes.

As a result, those who write content have to juggle multiple projects and ensure they meet tight deadlines, all while having to face random bouts of creative block.

This can feel like an uphill battle. However, that doesn’t have to be the case.

With the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or QuillBot, you can ensure you’re still productive even on days where you aren’t performing at your peak.

But!

Those AI tools aren’t the only productivity tools you have at your disposal as a writer.

That’s why for today’s “Write with the Pen of the Masters,” we’re going to talk about a few cloud-based writing tools you can utilize when writing copies, emails, or any other forms of content.

Leveraging Digital Tools for Writing Content

Ever since the public release of ChatGPT in late 2022, a ton of AI writing tools have cropped up, with most of them promising to be the all-in-one companion you’ll only need even for writing-related projects.

While this may be true to some extent, there are still other tools at your disposal you should take note of as a writer or someone who does some form of writing for a living… especially if you don’t need the bells and whistles that come with AI tools or would just rather not use them.

Without further ado, here are some of the writing tools you should definitely take a look at:

  • Thesaurus.com

Having a hard time finding the antonym or synonym of the word, “ultimately”?

    Thesaurus should keep you covered!

This software tool, which is also a companion of dictionary.com, provides users with the antonyms and synonyms of words or phrases. This writing assistant even provides visitors with writing tips.

Aside from Thesaurus, there’s Power Thesaurus, should you need an alternative or would like to cross-check while writing and editing your drafts.

  • Zotero

Working on a research paper, a technical writing project, or a whitepaper you intend to publish online?

If the answer is “yes,” then you’ll need to collect, organize, annotate, and properly cite sources you plan to use for your write-up.

Zotero enables users to collect, organize, annotate, and cite sources of information easily.

The research tool allows you to collect your sources and organize in whatever manner you want. More importantly, it can generate references and bibliographies for word processing apps like Word and Google Docs.

Typing in your citations manually can take soooo much time, so Zotero is definitely a lifesaver in this regard.

If it’s relevant to your case, you can also use this to synchronize your data across multiple devices and create a digital workspace if you’re collaborating on a writing project with other researchers or professionals.

  • The Good Ol’ Word and Character Counter Tool

Wait… don’t word processors like Google Docs come with built-in character and word counters?

Yes, they do… but remember, not every writer works on drafts in a word processor. Sometimes—and especially if they’re working on short-form content—they’ll write drafts in the platforms they tend to publish on instead.

Not every platform has a built-in tool to check character count, so tools that you can find online are definitely a BIG help.

Now, you might be wondering why this didn’t come with a suggestion like the other tools we mentioned.

The thing is, there’s so many tools to mention, as any simple search engine query would net you multiple results. So in this regard, feel free to use any tool you’re comfortable with.

There you have it—some of the tools that can definitely help make your life easier as a writer!

While it’s good to have AI tools do the things the tools we shared with you can, these are still useful to have up your sleeve… especially when you don’t have access to your go-to AI applications or would simply love to write without using them.

Remember: There are other writing tools out there that you can leverage, so make sure to explore as much as you can!
