Blogging is a powerful tool in building online presence and converting leads… [Wednesday: Write with the Pen of the Masters

Back in the early days of the Internet, blogs primarily served as journals where individuals can share their experiences and knowledge about a variety of topics.

Readers had a wide range of choices and had access to almost every type of blog, be it about food, a movie, a novel, business, and other niche topics.

Fast forward to now, blogs still serve a similar purpose, but they’re no longer just used to publish experiences; they’re also utilized to connect businesses with their target audience and serve as a cornerstone for any content marketing strategy.

So, for today’s “Write with the Pen of the Masters,” we’re going to take a deep dive on this topic and show you why blog posts are one of the pillars of any writers’ content strategy!

Leveraging Blog Posts

A blog is a dedicated website or web page used for the sharing of personal insights or information.

Nowadays, blogs aren’t just used as journals, they are also built, maintained, and used to fulfill a marketing or business need.

Blogs have become a cornerstone of marketing strategies used today because of the following reasons:

  • They provide target readers with a better understanding of a brand and its products.
  • They help businesses rank better in search engines.
  • They add website traffic.
  • They serve as a customer touch point and foster brand retention and loyalty.
  • They can be used for data capture.

Simply said, blog posts are crucial for any business that wants to put its name out there and build customer loyalty.

With this in mind, how can you publish blogs that are well-suited for business and marketing use?

  • Start with your target audience’s needs

  • The best way to get blog posts started is identifying what your customers need. For these posts to go well, what you’ll write needs to be relevant and relatable to your audience.

You can get the “pulse” of your customers through social media websites like Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and the likes. You can also visit question-and-answer websites like Quora and platforms like Reddit.

Once you’ve conducted your search, you can use the insights you’ve gathered when creating a content strategy, a content calendar, outlines, and finally, blog posts to be sent for publishing.

  • Draft your headlines and blog posts

  • Once you’ve crafted your strategy and prepared your outlines, it’s time to draft your blogs.

During the drafting process, it’s best to work on the headlines first because these will do most of the work in getting your target audience to read what you’ve written.

Headlines employ clear, direct, and simple language, and must be highly relevant to the insights you gathered from your target audience.

Last but not least, your headlines should be aligned with what your content will provide. Clickbait headlines, while useful, can erode audience confidence.

When writing the rest of the blog post, make sure to use clear language, relevant examples, and prioritize readability through the use of short paragraphs, clear headings and subheadings, and leverage visuals to break up long chunks of text.

There’s no standard length for a blog post as this will depend on the preferences of your target readers and the content strategy you’ve adopted.

Lastly, make sure to end your blog posts with powerful calls-to-action (CTAs).

Your CTAs should be relevant to the content you’ve drafted, so the ones you’ll craft will always vary. If your goal for a particular blog post is to get your readers to browse your offerings or to gather customer insights, the CTA should reflect that.

  • Identify which channels you’ll use to distribute

  • Publishing blog posts on your chosen content platform isn’t the end of the story. You need to make sure these blog posts can reach your readers.

In today’s rapidly-evolving digital landscape, optimizing for search engines isn’t enough to reach your audience. That’s why it’s important for you to prioritize other channels like email and social media as well.

With all these insights in mind, you’re well on your way to create your own blog posts. While creating them can take time, they are highly effective in reaching target readers.

The next time you conceptualize your content strategy, make sure to integrate everything we’ve shared with you!
