These 4Ps will help you drive action through your copies. Learn more about them here! [Wednesday: Write with the Pen of the Masters]

Writing copies that convert and convince can be challenging, especially in today’s highly competitive landscape where writers and marketers are constantly vying for their target market’s attention.

Due to this competition, some spend countless hours researching what their audience would be interested in and what their pain points are in hopes of knowing how to best reach out to them.

While this process yields positive results in terms of insights gathered, how can you utilize these pieces of information to craft a compelling and persuasive copy?

The answer lies in the use of the 4Ps copywriting formula!

For those of you who aren’t familiar yet, 4Ps stands for Promise, Picture, Proof, and Push.

When used together with what you know about your target audience, the 4Ps copywriting formula can help you craft copies that persuade and drive conversions.

According to Mailchimp, this copywriting formula moves readers from “understanding the value of an offering to taking concrete action.”

Furthermore, the copywriting formula is methodical, as each step builds on the previous one, giving writers or marketers to lead their target audience down a persuasive pathway.

Here’s an explanation of each component of the 4Ps copywriting formula:

  • Promise

  • In this section of the copy, you begin with giving your readers a promise.

This usually comes in the form of a bold statement or declaration about what your product or service can provide.

Regardless of whether you’re talking about a solution to a problem, a unique feature, or a benefit, the promise section is what sets the tone for the rest of your copy since it’s meant to lead your readers to form an expectation.

  • Picture

  • After giving the promise, the next thing you need to do is to paint a vivid picture of what your readers can get from the benefit, solution, or offering you’re presenting to them. This part is necessary because promises are much more stickier when readers are given an image of the solution, offering, or benefit they are being sold on.

In this regard, using storytelling techniques and evocative language are useful in helping your target audience visualize what you’re offering.

  • Proof

  • It’s not enough to provide a promise or paint a picture.

Today’s readers always look for proof before buying into what they’ve read. This is why it’s important that you provide proof to add credibility to the promise you’ve made and the picture you’ve painted. Otherwise, your copy will end up being taken with a grain of salt or worse, dismissed and set aside without a moment’s thought.

Proof can come in the form of testimonials, case studies, statistics, expert opinions, endorsements, evidence that validates your claim, or any combination of these.

  • Push

  • The promise you make, the picture you paint, and the proof you present are meant to lay the groundwork for this section of the copy.

The “push” is where you encourage your readers to commit to your desired action. This call-to-action (CTA) can come in the form of urging them to buy, sign up, or even something as simple as reaching out.

Regardless of what your CTA is, this is the point at which you get to convert on the interest you’ve built among your readers.

There you have it—everything you need to know about the 4Ps copywriting formula!

When leveraged properly, this formula can help you write copies that not only grab the attention of your readers but also persuade them to act on your desired action.

So, if you haven’t yet, give this copywriting formula a try!

You never know, this just might be what you need to use to craft compelling and highly effective copies!
