Picture this: You’ve finished your outline, crafted your hook, and now about to write your copy.
A few hours in and you finally complete what you’ve written.
However, after a thorough reading of your copy, you realize something—your message looks generic and lacks the power to capture eyeballs for more than 5 seconds.
So, you ask yourself what the problem is.
It’s not the hook.
It’s not the formatting.
It’s not the tone and length.
What could be the problem?
Perhaps the answer lies in your unique selling proposition (USP)…
… or the lack thereof.
Winning Hearts and Minds Through a Unique Selling Proposition
Capturing your audience’s attention nowadays is more challenging than ever before because there are lots of product or service offerings out there.
Be it a smartphone, a streaming service, or something as simple as a toaster, there’s no shortage of options for the average consumer.
With endless options, marketers and copywriters need to craft copies that will stick in the minds of their target audience and sway them to opt in to a product or service that they are offering.
This is where USP comes into play.
Basically, a USP helps you set yourself apart from your competitors in the eyes of your customers or target customers.
For those of you who might now know, USP refers to the key benefit or characteristic that sets a business, brand, or product apart from its competitors.
At its simplest, a USP answers the question that lingers in the hearts and minds of every consumer: “What makes your brand different from the others?”
When crafted well and integrated properly, a USP will enable the creation of copies that have a good chance of convincing readers to buy into a brand’s outreach efforts, whether it’s for lead generation or sales.
So, how can you craft and integrate your USP into your copies?
First, you have to study your competitors’ USPs and find gaps in their messaging. This way, you’ll find how you can position your brand, product, or service in a manner that’s unique to the eyes of your target audience.
Once you’ve found your openings, identify your brand or offering’s strengths over your competitors’ so you can brainstorm ways to integrate them in all of the copies you’ll write.
Most importantly, know and understand your audience’s needs and pain points.
Knowing your customers’ unfulfilled needs and pain points will enable you to create a USP and copies that will resonate with your target audience.
After all, the best way to get a message across is to create one that is highly relevant and relatable.
